Woman wearing Invisaligns

Invisalign

Crooked, gapped, or crowded teeth can affect your appearance, increase your risk of cavities, and lower your confidence.

Comfortable, discreet Invisalign® aligners from South Point Family Dentistry in Belmont, NC, let you avoid traditional braces.

Why do dental patients choose Invisalign over metal braces?

Invisalign Benefits Designed With Your Comfort & Needs in Mind

Our dentists at South Point Family Dentistry use Invisalign clear aligners to give our dental patients from Belmont and Charlotte, NC, the smiles they love. This advanced dental technique offers the benefits of braces without the hassles

Nearly Invisible

Invisalign aligners are made from clear plastic. The trays are designed to fit snugly in your mouth so other people barely notice you're undergoing orthodontic treatment.

More Comfortable

Many patients have commented that braces can irritate the insides of the cheeks. Invisalign aligners are smooth so they won't irritate the soft tissues of your mouth.

Completely Removable

Traditional orthodontic appliances are cemented to your teeth throughout treatment, but Invisalign clear aligners can be removed when you eat, brush, and floss. While you straighten your smile, you can continue to brush and floss normally and enjoy your favorite foods.

Schedule an Appointment Today

Drs. Gary McCord and Christopher Maino will ask about your goals, examine your bite, and see if Invisalign treatment is right for you. We serve patients of all ages in the greater Charlotte region.

Some people may be embarrassed by traditional braces and want more discreet orthodontic treatment. An aligner is clear and does not stand out as much compared to braces. Each aligner is custom-fitted and removable, making them easier to maintain than traditional orthodontic treatments.

Wondering how you can achieve a beautiful smile?

How Does Invisalign Compare to Conventional Orthodontics?

How Does Invisalign Work?

Instead of traditional braces, our Belmont and Charlotte patients can undergo Invisalign orthodontic treatment, which relies on nearly invisible aligner trays. These clear aligners are the secret to transforming your smile. They are custom created from impressions the dentist takes of your mouth. Using these impressions, a series of custom-made plastic aligners will be created. When you wear the aligners, they will gently and gradually shift your teeth into the correct position.

About every two weeks, you will move to the next set of aligners. Each patient has a different degree of misalignment, which affects how long the treatment lasts, but in most cases, treatment will last from six months to two years.

An important part of the Invisalign method is your willingness to stick with the treatment plan. This includes wearing your aligner trays for the mandatory 20 to 22 hours each day. You can remove the aligners to eat, floss, and brush your teeth.

Invisalign Treatment Timeline

Comfortable, discreet Invisalign trays make correcting your smile as easy as 1, 2, 3.

Simple Steps to a Better Smile

Comfortable, discreet Invisalign trays make correcting your smile as easy as 1, 2, 3.

Consultation

The first step is to request an appointment for a consultation so we can determine if you are a good candidate for Invisalign. One of our dentists will explain how Invisalign works and examine your mouth to determine if Invisalign is the right treatment.

Creating Custom Aligners

We will take impressions of your teeth that will be used to create the custom aligner trays to be worn throughout your treatment plan.

Pick Up Your Aligners

After your trays arrive, you'll return to our office to pick them up and try on the first set. Each tray in the series is to be worn for 20 to 22 hours each day for two to three weeks.

Check-Ins

You will return periodically to ensure your treatment is going according to plan. Our location makes these infrequent appointments convenient for our patients from Belmont and Charlotte.

Time to Smile

Once you've worn all the trays, a retainer may be created using impressions of your newly straightened smile. This retainer can be worn at night to ensure your teeth don't drift back out of alignment.

What a Straighter Smile Can Do For Your Health

Like braces, Invisalign retainers provide important oral health benefits.
Smiling man

Boost Confidence

Having straighter teeth can make you feel better about your appearance, boosting your self-confidence.

Woman brushing her teeth

Improve Oral Hygiene

Crowded teeth can be difficult to brush and floss.
Straight, evenly spaced teeth are easier to clean, preventing decay or gum disease.

Woman sleeping

Fewer Headaches; Better Sleep

Misaligned teeth can offset your jaw, causing joint aches and headaches. Straighter teeth will align your jaw properly, reducing and potentially eliminating any headaches stemming from jaw pain. An aligned jaw can also reduce sleep apnea symptoms.

How to Maintain Your Results

Patients who follow the Invisalign treatment as instructed by our orthodontists can expect straight, healthy smiles after 12 to 18 months. Following your treatment, we will schedule at least one follow-up appointment at our Belmont office in the greater Charlotte, NC, area. To maintain your results, our office recommends you:

Maintain Good Oral Health

Straighter teeth are easier to clean, and maintaining good oral health will reduce your chances of developing cavities, gum disease, and other issues.

Brushing and flossing at least twice a day and keeping regular checkups with your dentist will maximize your Invisalign results.

Wear a Retainer

Wearing a retainer is one of the best ways to maintain your smile. Depending on the results of your treatment, our orthodontists may recommend wearing a retainer while you sleep or during the day. In some cases, the last set of Invisalign aligners can be used as a retainer. It will help prevent your teeth from shifting and maintain your new smile for years.
