Learn how Dr. Gary McCord, Dr. Ashley Starr, and their Charlotte-area team can improve the look of your smile with cosmetic dentistry at our Belmont, NC, office.

What Is Cosmetic Dentistry?

Cosmetic dentistry focuses on the aesthetic aspects of your smile. Unlike restorative dentistry treatments such as implants or crowns, cosmetic dentistry is not used to improve your oral health or overall function. While there are cosmetic dentists who specialize in this field, general dentists like Dr. McCord and Dr. Starr are trained in cosmetic dentistry, too.

What Can Cosmetic Dentistry Treat?

Cosmetic dental work from our detail-oriented dentists can treat various aesthetic issues including:

  • Worn or discolored teeth
  • Chipped teeth
  • Cracked teeth
  • Tooth stains
  • Misshaped teeth
  • Recessive gum line

My experiences at SPFD has been nothing but excellent from day 1 from the person at the front desk to the office manager and all the support staff to the dental assistants, and of course the dentist (Dr Rodda). I go in happy and come out happy. That’s the kind of dentist office this is!

Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is a quick and easy solution to cover stains, chips, or cracks by attaching a customized piece of resin to your tooth. We can match the resin to the shape and color of your surrounding teeth to create a seamless smile. Compared to other dental care, bonding is a reversible and affordable solution for cosmetic imperfections.

Gum Grafting

Even when we have beautiful teeth, a recessive gum line can affect the look of a smile. Gum grafting is a way to reverse the effects and appearance of a recessive gum line, restore tissue to the area, and balance out your smile.

Want Brighter Teeth? We Offer Teeth Whitening

Even with good hygiene, the teeth can look dull or stained over time. In some cases, dental bonding may be able to address small spots, but it cannot transform all of your teeth.

Whitening, however, can help reverse tooth discoloration and stains to give you a brighter smile. Our practice offers teeth whitening 3M™ kits and customized trays so you can whiten your smile in your own home.

Cosmetic Treatment Timeline

Patients must have good oral health to be eligible for cosmetic dental treatments. If needed, our Belmont, NC, dentists can provide treatment for any oral health concerns prior to cosmetic dental work.

From whitening to gum grafting, we can put together a custom cosmetic dentistry plan designed with your smile in mind.

Consultation

Our cosmetic treatment process begins with a consultation appointment with our dentists so we can better understand each patient's dental goals. Our doctors may recommend certain treatments to match your unique needs and circumstances.

Exam

Before starting any cosmetic dental care, our dentists will give you a proper oral exam to make sure you have good oral health. If we find any underlying problems, we can take care of the health issues first and then return to your cosmetic options after you've recovered.

Treatment

You can choose one treatment or several depending on your desired results. Some treatments like teeth whitening have no recovery time, but procedures like gum grafting may require some recovery before we move on to the next treatment.

Enjoy the Results

After you've finished the treatment, you can now go out and show off your smile to Belmont and beyond. Practice good hygiene and other healthy habits to make the results last longer.

Practice Good Oral Hygiene

When you practice good oral hygiene, you can protect your health and make your results last longer. We're also here to help by offering regular cleanings at our Charlotte-area office.

Avoid Stain-Causing Agents

Certain foods and drinks, such as coffee, red wine, or acidic fruits, can stain your teeth over time. If you do want to indulge, consider minimizing the amount and drinking any liquids through a straw.

Wear Your Mouthguard

Often, our dentist treats patients with TMJ before conducting their cosmetic dentistry treatment. If you needed TMJ treatment, protect your appearance, health, and oral function by wearing your custom oral appliance each night

An Excellent Dental Experience From Start to Finish

"I had one of the most excellent experiences in my whole life. I am 57 years old now and never had an experience that I had at South Point Dentistry. Started from making my appointment until I arrived in the office. The front desk staff were amazing. The Dr Ashley had excellent bedside manner and her assistant. I would highly recommend this dentist office...I love this office." Sharlene Mullings

Restorations Can Serve
Cosmetic Purposes

In some cases, a tooth that's damaged beyond repair may need to be extracted to prevent further health issues. If you have missing or damaged teeth, we can use dental implants and other restorations in combination with cosmetic treatments. Dental implants replace your tooth roots and act as a base for life-like tooth replacements to provide a natural-looking smile.

FAQ About Cosmetic Dentistry

Is cosmetic dentistry painful?

No; we take care to ensure our patients' comfort during all dental treatments. To make treatment a virtually painless experience, our dentists ensure your gums will be protected during teeth whitening, where powerful bleaching solutions are applied to the teeth, and offer local anesthesia for more intensive procedures like gum grafting.

Can you repair or replace an old dental veneer?

Yes, we can. If you have existing veneers that you need fixed, our dentists are happy to help. However, we're hesitant about recommending veneers as a first-choice treatment. Veneers conceal the problems you have, rather than fix them. They also require a small portion of enamel to be removed from the surface of your tooth, making the treatment irreversible. Lastly, veneers, aren't permanent and will eventually need to be replaced.

Why go to a dentist for teeth whitening when I can just do it at home?

We know — it can be tempting to go with the cheaper price of whitening toothpaste or strips. However, what patients don't realize is that over-the-counter products use a less concentrated bleaching solution. As a result, they may try over and over again to use strips or pens to brighten their smile, only to see minor changes. When you visit our dentists for whitening, though, we employ a stronger bleaching solution, so that you can quickly enjoy stunning results. Plus, for those who want to conduct their treatment on their own schedule, we even offer powerful dentist-directed take-home kits.

I just had my first visit here, and was very impressed! The front desk, hygienist, and dentist were all so kind and welcoming. They answered all my questions and were happy to help with extra forms for a wellness program I’m volunteering for with my work. I will be sticking with them as long as I am around the Charlotte area.
